About Me

Melbourne hair and makeup artist Madeleine Stewart

Hello!

Hi, my name is Maddy (she/her). I pride myself on being an inclusive artist that provides a safe, exciting and collaborative environment for everyone. I believe that makeup is a way for you to express yourself in any way you want. Makeup should be fun and exploratory!

I love to work in all aspects of the industry including editorial, special effects, bridal, events, Film/TV - you name it. I like to keep myself open to all possibilities as I really enjoy changing up my style and testing out new things. My real passion is anything avant garde or special effects related - if it’s a bit weird, I LOVE it.

More recently I have  worked with greats such as Crowded House on their music video for their song Teenage Summer, and jumped on Aunty Donna’s Coffee Cafe on ABC iview as a special effects daily under Head Of Department - Lizzie Sharp.

Most days you will catch me in my studio or on location making people feel AMAZING!

When I am not freelancing you can find me as Campus Coordinator and Trainer for the Melbourne campus of The Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic Makeup in Docklands. I teach Editorial Makeup, Wig Styling, SFX and more.

  • A Social Story or Social Script can help support people with what to expect when they are experiencing a new place, activity or service. Some people from the Autistic community like to have an understanding of what to expect. Like many inclusive practices, everyone benefits. Please feel free to use this resource to help you or a person in your care understand want to expect from your visit to Maddy's studio.

If you would prefer these documents as word docs, please let me know.

    • The studio is just off a busy street where the sounds of cars, buses, trains and people can be heard. Inside the building it is quieter but some of that sounds may leak through.

    • We don't have to listen to music if you don't want to. You can ask Maddy to turn it off if it is playing and you would prefer it to be quiet.

    • We can have quiet appointments if you would prefer. There are certain questions I will have to ask in your appointment, but I can keep the rest of the session silent if that would be your preference. Please let me know beforehand if this is what you would prefer.

    • I can talk through each step of your appointment and explain what products and tools I will be using if that is helpful for you.

    • I do not wear strong colognes or perfumes as these can be overwhelming for some.

    • I have some sensory tools (fidgets) in my studio which you are welcome to use. You are also welcome to bring your own.

    • If you have any questions, requests or strong aversions please let us know.

  • You are welcome to invite a support person, interpreter or advocate along to your appointment. As a small business we cannot afford to hire an interpreter on your behalf but you are of course welcome to attend with an Auslan interpreter from your NDIS plan or other language interpreters available to you.

Service animals are of course welcome to attend. There is a patch of grass on the front lawn that may be suitable for toileting your service animal.

  • Knowing the accessibility and potential barriers of a venue allows you to make informed choices. The below information is intended to help support you to understand if this will be an accessible space for your needs. Please let us know if you have any questions or if there are other ways we can support your access needs.
